Triple j welcomes one of our first nominations
for the inaugural J Award: Downsyde and their album 'When
the Dust Settles'.
The West Australian hip hop crew have been going since 1996
when they began life as an MC trio of Optamus, Dazastah
and Dyna-Mikes. As part of the Syllabollics crew, Downsyde
has been at the forefront of Australian hiphop ever since.
The group's second album 'Land of the Giants'
was a landmark, and a reputation has grown across the country
for Downsyde's energetic live shows.
'When the Dust Settles' is their third
full length album.
'When the Dust Settles' ranges from party
anthems, to more the more downbeat numbers, sampling sounds
from all over the world - from the Middle East, to South
America and back to Australia.
Dazastah primarily produced the album, with the assistance
from all of Downsyde at the band's homes in Perth.
Lyrically, the rhymes are tight and controlled. In all the
tracks, the influence of the band's hometown is undeniable.
