Pip Browne is from Wellington. She's played in bands since her mid-teens. She was the guitarist in rock band Two Lane Blacktop - a band that looked set for bigger things until they disintegrated in 2003. Pip continued making music on her own under the name Ladyhawke. Richard Kingsmill spoke with her on the eve of the release of her debut album about her 2008 hit 'Paris Is Burning', stage nerves and her love of classic pop.
The 22 year old Swede had a nomadic childhood travelling with her parents to Portugal and India. She went to New York City when she finished school to make her name in music, but only started piecing things together when she got back to Sweden and teamed up with Bjorn Yttling from Peter, Bjorn and John who produced her debut album. Richard Kingsmill spoke to the ambitious singer when she was touring in Los Angeles. She is coming to Australia at the end of '08 for Falls and Southbound Festivals.
